This place is amazing. It's a bit of a speakeasy situation, up on the second floor, but I thought the food and service were amazing. Very interesting menu that seems incredibly authentic. I would put this up with Antyoa, another one of my faves in K-town

The restaurant is charming and bright with cute decor, tucked away on the second floor in K-Town. The service is friendly and attentive, though English is not fully understood. We ordered the veggie tofu soup, which was flavorful and satisfying. For some reason, it reminded me of a vegetable omelette, perhaps due to the raw egg mixed in. I stirred mine to create a creamier texture, which enhanced the soup even more. The meal came with a side of white rice, and they also offered a serving of kimchi when we sat down, adding a nice, tangy touch to the meal.

Went here after a long night of drinking and walking through the cold, so the deluxe seolleong tang really hit the spot. It came out nice and hot with plenty of chunks of beef and tendon, and the broth had a clean beef bone flavor. It comes unsalted so make sure to salt and pepper to your taste, although fair warning that some of the salt might end up going to the bottom of the bowl and making the last bits of soup a bit too salty.

The meal I had at Gammeeok was so warming, comforting, and perfect for a cold winter day. My godfather who I dined with has been coming here since the 90's, so it came highly recommended. I'd never had Seollong tang before, but I can never go back to a life without it!! I really love how you add your own scallions and season it to taste. Just a pinch of salt changes the flavor completely, and brings out the true richness of the bone broth. It's surprisingly light and nutritious, while also being very filling! The beef floating in the soup was very soft and flavorful, and the noodles and rice absorbed all the other yummy flavors. I'd also never had pork belly steamed before, but again, life will never be the same! It still retained all of the delicious flavor of pork belly but had a soft and delicate texture. It was fantastic on some Napa cabbage with some raw garlic, radishes, and fermented soybean paste. Their kimchi is the best I have had anywhere. It's salty and sour without being too funky. Shortly after they brought it out I devoured most of it! The barley tea is also amazing; as soon as the meal was over I rushed over to H Mart and bought myself some. The inside was very nice looking and clean, and the waiters didn't seem to mind that we stayed for a few hours at the table to catch up. It's a really great place with fantastic Korean home cooking!

A great spot for authentic and comforting Korean food! Me and my sister ordered the Seolleong tang and the Deonjang stew and split. Both are great and paired well together. The deonjang is very flavorful, and the seolleong tang is so comforting. I love that they give you a whole pot of green onions to add to your soup, and their kimchi is quite exceptional. Overall, I will definitely be returning!

My favorite 설렁탕 (sullungtang) in the city! Always hits the spot. It's rich and comforting and I appreciate how many green onions they give you. I love eating it with their kimchi- really one of my comfort foods. Recently tried their 된장찌개 (doenjang jjigae) and it was also delicious- decently spicy and a great flavor with generous amount of seafood. They also have boricha as well, perfect for a cold nyc winter night.

After a long and tiring 5-hour flight, my mom and I were in search of something comforting to revive us, and we found exactly that at Gammeok, a soup chain hailing from Korea. Arriving around 11 PM, there was no wait which - a relief after traveling for so long. We were immediately treated to complimentary kimchi and kkaduggi (Korean radish kimchi), both of which were outstanding. I usually judge a restaurant by the quality of its banchan and Gammeok's offerings were a clear signal that we were in for a great meal. We started with the haemul pajeon (seafood pancake), which was okay. But, the true star was the sullungtang (beef bone soup). I've had the pleasure of enjoying many excellent sullungtangs over the years, but this one ranks among the best I've had in the States. The restaurant may seem unassuming, but don't underestimate their soups. The broth was impressively clean yet full of depth, and the broth's rich flavor perfectly balanced the brisket. While the brisket wasn't the most tender, I can excuse this given how delicious their soup is. For a 24/7 spot that serves food far beyond what you'd expect at that hour, Gammeok stands out as one of the best. Whether you're looking for breakfast or a late-night bite, they're an ideal choice at any time of day.
